What will happen?Once you book an Experience, the Host will contact you to arrange the details. If applicable, the Host will discuss any costs involved, equipment needed, answer any concerns or questions you have, and where to meet.

OUTDOOR
Introductory Surf Lesson
HOST: Scott B HOST SKILL LEVEL: Very competent
Scott will show you how to paddle the board, how to ride back into shore, and hopefully, you’ll get to stand up and surf :). Watch Scotts short video teaching surfing at Island Bay here.
Duration: 1-2 hours Availability: Flexible on the day and time slot Location: Scott will arrange which beach to meet at. How many can attend: Max 1 (plus support person if applicable)Support person welcomed: Yes
What to bring: Wetsuit (if needed Scott can advise you how to hire one), drink, snacks, warm clothing to change into, towel, sunscreen.Equipment supplied: Surfboard
ALERTS:
  • You need to be able to swim and to be confident in the water.
  • You will need to organise your own transport.
  • This Experience is weather dependant and could be postponed if the weather isn't ideal on the day.
SPORTS
Taekwondo & Self Defence
HOST: Lance B HOST SKILL LEVEL: Professional
Learn introductory practical TaeKwon-Do and self-defence knowledge and skills. Essentially defensive concepts, tactics, stances, kicks, punches, strikes and blocks.. Lance maintains a First Aid qualification and has worked with disabled young adults.
Duration: 90 minutes (ideally)Availability: Ideally weekends at day/time that suits both parties.Location: At a venue to be determined/agreed, outdoor works if fine weather.How many can attend: Between 6-10 Support person welcomed: Yes
What to bring: Wear comfortable sportswear. Drink. An open mind, good spirit and attitude. Costs: If venue hire is required, $35/hour for the venue. There is a fee of $40 to cover Lance's travel cost that will be split between the number of Participants. Equipment supplied: All pads, gloves etc will be provided.
ALERTS:
  • You will need to learn physical components in close proximity with another person. If you're not comfortable with working with a safe, qualified and experienced male instructor, then we suggest that you come along with a support person that you trust and will be willing to physically participate.
  • You will need to organise your own transport.
  • Covid protocols for this Experience are that Participants will need to provide evidence of being fully vaccinated and follow Govt protocols for Level 2
ARTS & CRAFT
Flower Arranging
HOST: Jo HOST SKILL LEVEL: Hobbyist
It's really nice to give someone flowers, but buying them can cost a lot. Jo will show you how to put together a lovely bunch of hand-picked flowers for a fraction of the cost.
You will learn how to put together a bunch of flowers as a gift. The flowers used will be a mixture of store-bought and garden picked or forged plants.
Duration: 60 minutesAvailability: Tues between 12:00pm-2:30pmLocation: FlexibleCost: $5 for materials and flowers How many can attend: Max 3 Support person welcomed: Yes
What to bring: Cash to cover costs. Gardening gloves. Supplied equipment: Scissors, twine, ribbon.

  • You will need to have good muscle control in at least one hand.

Make A Macrame Plant Hanger
HOST: Ariana HOST SKILL LEVEL: Hobbyist

What to bring: If you can, bring your own scissors and measuring tape. I will have spares to borrow if not. Supplied equipment: Scissors, measuring tape, tape.

LIFE SKILLS
Beginner Excel
HOST: Ariana HOST SKILL LEVEL: Competent

Duration: 60 minutesAvailability: Tuesday or Wednesday between 12-1pmLocation: Pataka Porirua Library.How many can attend: Max 2 Support person welcomed: Yes
What to bring: Laptop with Microsoft Excel installed. Pen and paper for notetaking. What to prepare: In advance advise Ariana of 2-3 specific things you'd like to learn.

SOCIAL
Coffee Cafe Chats
HOST: Ariana HOST SKILL LEVEL: Very competent
Meet Ariana for a coffee and have a friendly chat together at a cosy cafe in Porirua. Ariana is a warm and fun sense of humour. She loves meeting people and will make you feel at ease.
Duration: 60 minutesAvailability: Thurs between 11:00am-1:30pmLocation: To be confirmed, but a cafe in the Porirua city area. Cost: You will need to be able to buy your own food and drink. How many can attend: Max 5Support person welcomed:: Yes
What to bring: Money card or cash to pay for your own food and drink.

ONLINE
Morning crossword
HOST: Dee H HOST SKILL LEVEL: Very competent
Video chat while solving a crossword together from the comfort of your lounge. You send Dee a photo of the crossword you would like to work on. Then you will video chat and discuss the clues to solve the crossword.
Duration: 30 minutesAvailability: Mon or Tue 7:00am-8:00amHow many can attend: Max 1 Support person welcomed: Yes
Requirements: Device with Zoom, Skype or Facetime installed. Internet connection.

What Is Reiki?

Are you interested in reiki, but not sure it's for you?
Dee will tell you about reiki and how it works. She'll talk you through what you can expect and how the Reiki Healer will work with you. She's happy to answer any questions and help you work out if Reiki is something you'd like to try.
