A hub for activities to share and do!
Wow, we have some generous and interesting people here in Porirua! Ready to share their interest as an activity for others to enjoy -- especially with those who, for various reasons, don't have access to experiencing certain opportunities. Hono Mai provides a hub for awesome people to volunteer to share their interests for others to enjoy. As an Activity Host, you'll give people the opportunity to connect with others in their wider community, help grow an amazing community together, and bring opportunity, and joy. Hosting and participating is open to anyone, and we strive to make them accessible to those with a disability too. It's free to register! - Register as an Activity Host. - And/or register as a Hono Mai Member to get notifications when activities become available. - You can be both a Host and a Member. Becoming an Activity Host is so much fun and the benefits to you and your recipient/s is really rewarding! An Activity Is
  • An interest to share with one or more person/s.
  • A skill, a passion, hobby, or any interest that you'd like to share.
  • You set a date and number of people who can attend when you're ready -- and we'll help with promoting it!
  • Offered on a frequency of your choosing.
  • Offered on a voluntary basis.
  • Is not a means of earning revenue.
If an activity is offered to a potentially vulnerable person, the Host can choose to have a Police Check done and/or let the Participants support person accompany them. A vulnerable person has been identified as someone who, due to their personal circumstances, is especially susceptible to detriment or harm. A Police Check is processed by Hono Mai and it is free to obtain one.
Three Ways To Host
An Activity Host
  • You'll fill in and submit this form to help create your activity.
  • Your activity can be as long or short as you want. E.g. 1 hour or half a day.
  • No long-term commitment.
  • We'll be there to help develop your activity so it fits with what you can offer. Find out more here
A Online Host
  • Can be held as an online video chat or over the phone..
  • Can be one-on-one or with a group.
  • Can be as long or short as you like.
  • Can be once-off or repeated. No long-term commitment.
A Co-Host
  • You can assist an Activity Host (with their approval). If you'd like to help instead of lead an activity, then co-hosting could be a great option. Find out more here
Becoming a Hono Mai Member
Register for free and you get full access to register your interest for an activity before it goes live! PLUS you get access to a crackiing newsletter, AND you'll get access to submit activity suggestions (activities not listed but you'd love it if they were!). This is SHARING YOUR WAY

When volunteering to share your interest or fulfil a wish, there is no long-term commitment. We will be there to give you help with content; identifying what things participants need to bring, and things they need to consider beforehand. For Activity Hosts, you decide how your activity is delivered - you can even deliver it online. You'll get support in creating your activity plan.
